Saint Jean du Gard, a charming town, sometimes called “pearl of the Cevennes”, is situated at about 5 km from the campsite in the Gard. You will find there several small shops and local craftspeople.
The village is also reputed in summer for its markets on Tuesday morning, on Thursday evening for the night market and on Saturday morning for its farmer’s market which also very pleasant.
So, this town is the perfect place for doing your shopping, to have a drink or to have a meal in one of its restaurants.

Saint Jean du Gard is also worth a visit for its historical monuments.

The famous Steam Train Cévennes first, which embarks you on a journey along the Gardon to Saint Jean du Gard, making a stop by the bamboo Prafrance. An essential trip in a steam engine to discover the charm of the Cevennes valleys.

If you have a little more time, let yourself be seduced by the museum of the Cevennes valleys, which traces the long cultural history of the whole valley.
The youngest ones will prefer “Le Bois des Plumes” a brand new tree climbing park.

For hikers, Saint Jean du Gard is known to represent the end of the “Chemin de Stevenson” a recognized hike, and a course representing nearly two weeks of walking. So you can walk nearby on one of the many marked trails around the village. Or even furrow the famous “Cévennes Corniche”.

For the more adventurous, it is even possible to return on foot by taking the GR67, to reach directly Camping Les Plans ****, along the Gardon for almost 5 kilometers.
